Open theism as a new approach in the realm of theology and philosophy of religion, has put forward theories and views that have attracted the attention of many contemporary thinkers- both philosophically and theologically. The main claim of the supporters of this approach is that many of the common doctrines about the nature and attributes of God (in particular, the attributes such as divine foreknowledge, immutability, impassibility and timelessness) derived from the Greek philosophies, in particular neoplatonic tradition and they are affected by it , and for this reason, these attributes separated from their original path, which is the same path of the Bible. Therefore, in order to remove the false philosophical notions from the true attributes of God in the Bible, we must revisit them again. Since the founders and defenders of this school claim that their views are rooted in the tradition of theism and classical theism, with a historical look at this theological movement and examining the path of its development, we evaluate the validity of their claims. Some contemporary theologians and philosophers of religion consider the open theism as a traditional theism, Some others consider it as a deviation in the traditional theism and some also consider it as heretical school that does not have a place in the orthodoxy tradition. However, although not much time has passed since the beginning of this movement, it has been able to attract opinions -opponent or compliant; A large number of writings confirming or denying this school, have witnessed this claim. Therefore, we should also enter into new areas of theology and philosophy of religion by using our very rich sources in the theological - philosophical tradition of Islam and by fully understanding of this approach.

Divine action is one of the most important issues in theology during history. In contemporary theology and science discussions, this issue becomes more important in the light of modern science’s achievements. Is it a reasonable way for believing in God’s providence that is also far from the god of the gaps strategy? John Polkinghorne, the famous English Physicist and Priest, is one of the pioneers of theology and science discussions in Christian doctrine. In addition to brilliant achievements in theoretical physics, he has some outstanding theories also in theology and science (In both methodology and contents). One of these theories is the specific picture he presents for modelling divine action in nature. This picture, rests on some bases: critical realism in scientific discovery, specific role of metaphysics, defeating naturalism, specific notion of causality and a top-down model of causation based on chaos theory. In this article, after a review on Polkinghorne’s academic life, his main ideas in general and his specific notion of divine action in nature in particular is described. In criticizing his ideas, it is shown that his notion, although has some powerful points, is not strong enough for philosophical analysis. At the end, I emphasis in the role of a strong coherence philosophical system for generate an acceptable picture for divine action. Islamic philosophy systems, I think, can play this role in contemporary discussions.

Human fall is one of the key issues of anthropological concern in religious studies and philosophical investigations; it not only accounts for the nature of human soul rather it refers to the latter’s origin and its emergence. Although fall has been discussed in some prophetic traditions and sayings; for Mulla Sadra it is of philosophical interest and has been discussed along with the issues of soul’s origination. Thus this essay seeks to study the issue of human soul’s fall in the context of Mull Sadra’s philosophical discussions of soul as a whole and in view of a set of certain prophetic traditions. It aims at providing a picture of fall from a religious and philosophical point of view. Taking a problem-oriented approach, this research struggles to explain the bodily emergence and spiritual eternity of human soul and demonstrate that origination and fall are not of a contradictive or differentiated nature in Sadra’s view rather they are totally coherent; it also studies the philosophical, mystical and exegetical attitudes of Sadra on the existential status of human soul and its knowledge. Finally it seeks to offer a rational interpretation of ontological aspects of the fall of human soul drawing upon Sadra’s ideas concerning human realization.

Farabi in his book, Ihsa Al-Olum, distinguished between two approaches of Kalam (theology): discursive and non-discursive. In the following period, the discursive Kalam overcame the non-discursive and became a theological approach which is characterize as philosophical theology. Hereafter, occurred a kind of dialogue and understanding between Islamic philosophers and theologians. Fakhr is the one who established philosophical Kalam and this Kalam culminated in Nasir Al-Din Tusi’s philosophical theology. The basic traits of this new theology are: adopting logic as the method of reasoning; bringing and discussing philosophical issues into Kalam; defending and illuminating religious beliefs from a philosophical or scientific point of view. In present paper we have discussed milieu, historical conditions and the ways in which this important change happened based on what Ibn Khaldun took into account, because the thesis is of history of idea.
