Explain the relationship between reason and faith is one of the main concerns Kierkegaard and Mulla Sadra. The most important feature of faith from the perspective Kierkegaard, is its anti-intellectual or paradoxical nature. In this thinking, person can never be achieved to faith by rational thinking and appealing to historical evidence. Basically life of faith from view Kierkegaard is life within Christianity and very life of christianity is that protects it against all theoretical efforts. Mulla Sadra On the other hand believes that the faith, although it is related to the heart but faith of heart is not limited to knowledge Intuitive. But Knowledge of God with reason and proof, that is to say belief that is obtained through theoretical reason, can be considered the heart of faith. In other words, all his efforts are focused on that reconcile between reason and faith or mysticism and the argument.

A main part of contemporary religious epistemology consists of debates on the problem of validity of evidentialism. Generally contemporary epistemology tends to refuse evidentialism because this view establishes a stricter measure for justification. Most important reaction to this view can be seen in well-formed epistemology that takes some religious beliefs and see them not in need to sufficient justification. In this article we argue that: 1. well-formed epistemology can’t solve the charge of arbitrariness; consequently, 2. this view isn’t defensible; and 3. religious beliefs in another sense can be seen foundational: in foundational meaning for knowledge’s whole claim and approaching to truth (refusing the radical skepticism).

In recent decades, many philosophers of religion have tried to address instances in order to prove the argument of Gratuitous Evil. One of these examples is the divine concealment which presented first time by John L. Schellenberg as an argument against theism. Based on the argument, in spite of that many of God’s servants want honestly and insistently to observe or perceive Him somehow, He denies giving them some signs of his existence and continues to his hiddenness. Schellenberg claims that if God exists then there is no justification to his hiddenness since through his appearance he can bring about His servant’s salvation and happiness. Our question in this paper is whether the concealment of God can be seen as an instant of evil? Is there really no excuse for hiding God?

Divine action in the world is one of the important problematic questions in contemporary philosophy of religion. After new inventions in modern physics during 20’th century some of the scholars claimed that in spite of classical physics in which physical laws constrain divine actions, in modern physics, uncertainty principle could explain and justify God intervention in the world. But quantum mechanics had produced big challenges in ontology and had not straightforward metaphysics and resulted to different interpretations, each suggesting different way to explain divine actions. Bohmian interpretation of quantum mechanics regarding his special metaphysical ideas like implicate order, holomovement and holism presenting novel perspective on this issue. This article investigate relation between Bohmian interpretation of quantum mechanics and divine actions in the world and shows its capacities on this issue.

Among the three traditional religious language in Stiver's claims on religious language, Fakhr Razi's approach can be found in the negative method one, because his view in the field of affirmation and knowledge of the divine essence and semantics of some names, qualities and divine acts is based on negative method. One of the negative approach components to religious language is ineffability, this issue is visible in Razi's approach where, in the area of theology and semantics of some names and divine qualities such as implicit names of Allah, qoddus name, seeing God, the hearing and seeing and some of divine acts, he emphasizes mystical method and Quran 's way. Therefore, in this realm, the human reason is not able to understand some of the divine secrets; even if some apprehensions are achieved through endeavor and revelation, language is not able to express and describe them. In this article we will attempt to explain the positions of Fakhr-e-Razi in the field, with an emphasis on epistemological and linguistic foundations.

This paper aims at studying Nagarjuna's approach on the question of God's existence. The study reveals that resorting to theological views such astheism, atheism, agnosticism and pantheism cannot present a correct understanding of God's existence from Madhyamika's perspective. By making a critical analysis, Nagarjuna attempts to reach an idea of a personal God that the public have. This paper tries to systematize Nagarjuna's arguments with a method of philosophy of religion. Unlike what is believed, Madhyamika's real approach on the existence of God is neither monotheistic nor atheistic; because this school accepts neither the statement "there is God' nor the statement "there is no God'.

There are two theories among dualists who believe that soul is immortal with body: ‘recreation theory’ and ‘new body theory’. According to recreation theory, soul is immortal and the very earthy body will be recreated in the next world. According to the new body theory, humans have a body and a soul. Soul is immaterial, and is our personal identity. Since soul is immortal it is possible that soul continues living with the same earthy body or the other body in the other world. Gazzali and Swinburne both take new body theory but there are some differences. They both believe that soul is immortal, however for Swinburne this immortality isn’t innate and God gives the soul immortality whereas Gazzali asserts that soul is immortal in itself though God can stop its existing.

This paper reviews and evaluates the Heidegger's lecture course titled ‘identity and difference’ about Hegel's philosophy. This study has attempted to explain Heidegger's understanding of the basic components of Hegel's thoughts concerning ‘the problem of identity and difference’ ‘a principle of thought’ and ‘the onto-theo-logical constitution of Metaphysics’ and the relation between modern metaphysics and nihilism at the result of that. According to Heidegger, Hegel's metaphysics is onto-theo-logic and his principle of thought absolutely appears as absolute idea. And also the modern nihilism is raised as the consequence of this thinking about metaphysics. But Heidegger attempts to resolve the problem of identity and difference by a thought which called ereignis. At the end I conclude that Heidegger pattern for the problem of identity and difference cannot completely resolve all contradictions. However, his thinking about the emergence of ‘full and pure Being’ can promised new landscape in which Being appear in its unconditional form and it is the only way to save us from the concealment of locus of the sacred.

Within Tractatus and other works related to Wittgenstein's early philosophy, the concept of "nonsense" is a central one and of great importancem which was the subject of several interpretations. Among them, traditional (metaphysical) interpretation is a lasting one which P.M.S. Hacker, G.E.M. Anscombe and Hans-Johann Glock are its major figures. According to this interpretation, Wittgenstein maintains that there are a kind of truth which are "ineffable", including ethical and religious truths. Also, there are commentators who has used this kind of truth to conclude that Wittgenstein could (or should) be considered as continuing the negative theology tradition. In this paper, after articulation of traditional interpretation, the relation between Wittgenstein and negative theology will be studied. In the end, we will pose some critical remarks to show that, despite some priliminary similarities, not only Wittgenstein's philosophy has nothing to do with negative theology, but it is in a totally different direction than negative theology, even against it.

Nancy Murphy is an American philosopher and theologian, who attempts to use quantum physics to propose a new account of divine action in the world. She believes that any theory of divine action in the world would be acceptable if consistent with both science and theology. Murphy uses bottom-up causation to explain her view about God’s action. She believes that God is a hidden variable. As a result she explains God’s action, appealing to indeterminacy at the quantum level. She believes that there are no accidental events at the quantum level, and God’s actions don’t violate the laws of nature. In the present research, presenting a careful explanation of Nancy Murphy's view, we discuss and examine the criticisms presented against her approach.

In this paper, the authors explain the plurality of meaning in life by defining the meaning of life and examining different theories about this issue. Then, using the foundations of Mulla Sadra, they analyzed and explained this issue in three areas of epistemology, ontology and anthropology. In this essay, in the field of epistemology, based on Mulla Sadra's lasting and positive attitudes towards life, the plurality of meaning in life was analyzed. In the aspect of ontology, using the system of individual unity of existence and the possibility of poverty in the form of manifestation and different appearance of the name and plurality of appearances, the plurality of meaning of life was analyzed. In the field of anthropology, this question was analyzed by seeking to explain the plurality of a human being in two systems of arrogant unity and personal unity.

The existence of God is not obvious for some people at all. For them, the traditional arguments for God’s existence are not compelling. Worse still possibly, some people sincerely are seeking God, but don’t find Him. So feeling dissatisfaction and disappointment, they abandon the quest inevitably. ‘Divine Hiddenness’ is the name philosophers have given to this phenomenon. John Schellenberg, contemporary philosopher, believes that divine hiddenness justifies atheism. Paul Moser, contemporary analytic philosopher, unlike Schellenberg not only does not believe that divine hiddenness justifies atheism but, in his view, hiddenness is the essential and positive attribute of Jewish-Christian God. In this paper, based on the ideas of the two philosophers, we consider and compare their viewpoints and arguments about the problem of divine hiddenness, and investigate the validity of divine hiddenness argument in justification of atheism. According to the results of the paper, unlike the Moser’s point of view the divine hiddenness requires a justification. And schellenberg’s argument from divine hiddenness is answerable by theists and could not justify atheism.

Thus the proponents of this movement are strongly against using reason in its philosophical meaning to explain and defend the doctrines of religion.

The significance of contemplation in the existence of God and its extensive effects in human life has caused philosophers and the ologiansto try to offer some rational arguments in this regard. This has led to the development of different arguments, including ontological, innate, creation, motion, design, moral, and cosmological ones which have all received different interpretations throughout history. Among these rational arguments, cosmological argument seems to be more important due to the following reasons: a) Cosmological argument, in comparison to other ones, has been used by more philosophers and theologians in both Islamic and Western traditions; b) It has a lot in common with philosophy, theology, and religion; therefore, many theologians have taken philosophical and theological approaches to its application; c) It is rooted in a relatively common rational understanding and based on some principles like actual existence, causation, and dependency of effect on cause;d) It demonstrates the existence of cause, namely God, by demonstrating the existence of effect;a method more appropriate than the one that proves the existence of effect through the existence of cause; e)It is independent of other arguments; f) It uses the least number of principles to prove the existence of God; and g) It corresponds with external facts. This paper seeks to shed light on some of its explanations and rational virtues in Islamic and Western philosophies.

God’s eternity is an important discussion in contemporary western philosophy of religion. Greeks and medieval scholastics mainly explain the God’s eternity as being but for some modern thinkers it means. Accordingly God’s eternity in contemporary philosophy of religion have two different interpretations called “infinite time” interpretation and “timelessness” interpretation. It seems that by contemplation on the nature of time and its implications and some attributes of God like immutability, organize some evidences against “infinite time” interpretation. Also the objections on this interpretation, like the charge of the inconsistency of this concept or the objection upon temporality of all events are answerable. Yet, the reasonability of this view tied to give a reasonable explanation of the connection between eternal being and temporal world.

Human fall is one of the key issues of anthropological concern in religious studies and philosophical investigations; it not only accounts for the nature of human soul rather it refers to the latter’s origin and its emergence. Although fall has been discussed in some prophetic traditions and sayings; for Mulla Sadra it is of philosophical interest and has been discussed along with the issues of soul’s origination. Thus this essay seeks to study the issue of human soul’s fall in the context of Mull Sadra’s philosophical discussions of soul as a whole and in view of a set of certain prophetic traditions. It aims at providing a picture of fall from a religious and philosophical point of view. Taking a problem-oriented approach, this research struggles to explain the bodily emergence and spiritual eternity of human soul and demonstrate that origination and fall are not of a contradictive or differentiated nature in Sadra’s view rather they are totally coherent; it also studies the philosophical, mystical and exegetical attitudes of Sadra on the existential status of human soul and its knowledge. Finally it seeks to offer a rational interpretation of ontological aspects of the fall of human soul drawing upon Sadra’s ideas concerning human realization.

In this paper, it is intended to show that monotheistic religions that believe in the existence of God and the event of resurrection can express that religions that deny these two facts are out of the circle of truth, because these two beliefs are based on objective realities, not subjugative matters that are the basis of the claims and arguments of pluralists. Then, the basic conditions of religiosity, i.e. worship and ethics-based behaviors, will be explained. Since religious beliefs and behaviors of believers of different religions are influenced by many non-optional factors, it is not easy to judge their faithful lives and in this regard, it is neither possible to defend pluralism nor exclusivism. However, the diversity of non-optional faithful lives does not contradict the fundamental beliefs of any religion to be evaluated rationally. Therefore, a religion that can achieve the greatest success in rational examination of its fundamental beliefs can speak of its truth against other religions.

Imam Musa Sadr is one of the most known contemporary Muslim thinkers and reformers that through his theological approach has identified some social problems and has sought to solve them. His presence in the realm of practice and theory simultaneously, necessitates the need to study his thoughts and his methods of action. Considering the existing literature on the subject of social theology, and studying the Sadr’s works, using descriptive-analytic method, this paper analyzes his ideas, and through a comparative approach, tries to analyze and explain his pattern of Islamic social theology. As we will see, anthropological, social, religiological, epistemological and social ethics aspects of Sadr’s thought form the foundations of his social approach to theology. His worthy and dignity-oriented attitude to Human, his democratic approach to community, His humanistic interpretation of religion and regarding religion as the rules of life and the base of social system and as a tool to actualize human wishes and to diminish human pains, and finally his comprehensive look at knowledge and considering other knowledge sources alongside religion, leads to a system of thought in virtue of which the establishment of a desired justice system is interpreted. Finally, we will interpret the Sadr’s pattern of Islamic social theology as ‘the pattern of social theology based on unified Ummah ’

One of the most important criticisms that nowadays threatens the rational belief in the existence of a benevolent, omniscient and omnipotent God, is the problem of evil. Linda Zagzebski is one of the contemporary philosophers who attempts to consider this subject with a new sight. She suggests Divine Motivation Theory to show that God is the ontological foundation for all goods and his motivational states are ontologically and metaphysically the basis for all moral properties and values. By adopting this theory, Zagzebski proves that the logical and the evidential arguments from evil are not justified. She tries to suggest her theodicy to outline God's possible reasons for permitting evil. She shows that god has permitted some evils because of his love for persons.

The theoretical framework of Kant’s critical philosophy rooted in 18th century events (Enlightenment). The question of validity, scope and foundations of metaphysical knowledge is amongst Kant’s epistemological concerns. When we talk about “the possibility of metaphysics” we think about theoretical foundations of that knowledge. Science and experience for Kant means objective scope of human knowledge reflected in the sensibility and understanding. Here that very question again rise: the possibility of “pure mathematics” and “natural sciences”. Kant’s inquiries about this two scopes result in that though the theoretical foundations of knowledge belong to knowing subject, the process of mind’s activity belong to experience, and thereby the problem of the gap between subject and object will be solved. This approach extends to the scope of morality and religion, and provide an answer to the unsolved questions of metaphysics. On Kant’s view there is no conflict between theoretical and practical reason. If science deals with the objects of experience and concrete matters, and the possibility of mathematics and natural sciences is certainly undeniable, morality and religion specially deals with the existence of God and immortality of soul. When Kant think about moral action, its possibility and conditions, sees the correlation between them, and certainly concentrate on unobjectivity and nominal aspect of these matters.

The epistemological aspect of testimony is studied in contemporary epistemology and in the single report (al-Khabar al-Wahid) and massive report (al-Khabar al-mutawatir) in principles of Islamic jurisprudence (Usul al-fiqh). Regarding the main similarities and differences between testimonial justification conditions in Elizabeth Fricker and Morteza Ansari, a leading Shiite theologian, I examine the possibility of the comparison between them in this paper. Therefore, first of all, I compare the concepts of report and justification (hudjdjat) in Ansari’s principles of Islamic jurisprudence with the concepts of testimony and justification in Fricker. Then, I compare the conditions of testimonial justification in Ansari and Fricker. Finally, I show that some apparent similarities are differences in fact. Accordingly, while the comparison is possible, it should be done with great caution.

The essentialist approach to religion is an attempt to challenge the divese approaches to religion which, as external observers and through a reductionist view, have attained an incomplete understanding of religion and put the religious studies in a wrong direction. This endeavor is accomplished through the following steps: first, conceptual analyzing the distinction between essence and quiddity and truth; second, evaluating the main claim and reasons of the essentialist approach opponents, which include atheists, religious intellectuals, and sociologists, to show their shortcomings; and finally presenting some reasons regarding requirements of ‘knowledge’, ‘religion’ and ‘understanding of religion’.
